Date: January 27th 2012
Burglary Wed., 1/25/12 at 1:30
p.m. in the 1600 block of Milford. Burglars
broke in through a rear glass door and the alarm sounded.
Burglars were in and out in approximately 2 minutes, probably
due to the audible alarm.
Solicitors - There have been quite a few solicitors in the neighborhood recently. Many of these "solicitors" have been hawking magazines, raising money or awareness about the environment, or saying that they are raising money for their sports team. Although some may be legitimate, some of the individuals appear to be involved in a scam or may be casing homes. For example, last week one solicitor told a resident that they were related to a neighbor on the block, yet was unable to correctly pronounce the neighbor's name. While it is not illegal to solicit in the city of Houston, posting a No Solicitor sign should help limit the number of strangers knocking at you door. If they knock anyway, do not open the door, but do answer through your closed/locked door, and ask them to leave. If they will not leave or are rude, call the Southampton/Boulevard Oaks Patrol at 713-825-5555. Burglars posing as solicitors will approach a residence and attempt to determine if someone is at home by knocking on the door. If no one responds to the knock, the individual(s) may attempt entry at the rear of the residence.
No Solicitor Signs - Small, metal "No Solicitor" signs can be ordered through the BOCA office. To order, mail your check for $5.00 payable to BOCA to the address below. Please specify brass or silver. Plaques are approximately 1.75" square and have an adhesive backing.|
